Lettera del 2 settembre 2004 inviata da Mandriolo a padre Joseph Oliapram, parroco di Razole (materialmente spedita l’11.9.2004).

Caro Padre Joseph,		Dear Fr. Joseph
ci ha fatto piacere apprendere dalle sue stesse parole che si è fisicamente ristabilito dalla malattia. Ringraziamo il Signore per questo e gli chiediamo di restarle accanto ancora per lungo tempo e di ricambiarla per tutto quello che Lei ha fatto e farà per la sua missione. Leggiamo dalla sua lettera che lì state ottenendo incoraggianti risultati quanto a formazione dei ragazzi, assistenza agli anziani ed ai poveri ed, in generale, nella crescita delle vostre comunità. In un momento in cui motivi religiosi sono presi a pretesto per la violenza fra i popoli, mentre vi sono così gravi problemi sociali e la nostra cultura occidentale è sempre più afflitta dalla crisi di valori, per noi è confortante sapere che il cristianesimo sta invece davvero edificando la società in altre parti del pianeta.		It’s with much pleasure that we have learnt that you recovered well after your illness. We thank the Lord for this and we ask Him to stay near you still for long time and reward you for all you did in your life for your mission. We red from your letter that you are getting cheering results with regard to the childred education, assistance to elders and poors and, in general, to your communities growth; in a period like this one when religious reasons are used to justify violence among people, while there are so many heavy social problems and our Western culture is more and more troubled by value crisis, it’s very reassuring for us to know that Christianity is on the contrary edifying society in other parts of our planet.

Confidiamo quindi che nelle sue prossime lettere ci vorrà ancora parlare della vostra situazione, dei vostri progetti, e ci illustrerà meglio la realtà con le immagini promesse. Tutto ciò potrebbe contribuire a sensibilizzare la nostra comunità e, quindi, ad intensificare gli scambi a beneficio del gemellaggio che ci unisce.		We trust therefore that in you next letters you can speak to us again of your situation, of your new projects, and that you can explain us better your reality with the promised pictures. All this could contribute to sensitize our community and, therefore, to increase the exchange between you and us, all this to benefit of the twinning which binds us.
Come ogni anno, all'inizio dell'estate (dall'11 al 14 giugno) ha avuto luogo la nostra festa parrocchiale che, grazie al contributo di molta gente ed alla clemenza del tempo, si è confermata quale appuntamento di grande interesse e partecipazione; sono stati dunque conseguiti i risultati, anche economici, sperati.		As usual every year, at the beginning of the summer (from Jun 11 to Jun 14) we have organized our parish festival which, thanks the contribution of several people and to the very good weather, confirmed its good reputation as rendezvous of great interest and participation; we have consequently got very good results also in terms of economic profit that we hoped from it.
Abbiamo poi trascorso un'estate fortunatamente meno calda dell'anno precedente, ed ora, conclusosi il grande contro-esodo della gente che dai luoghi di villeggiatura torna alle proprie case, stiamo gradualmente riprendendo le nostre attività sociali, lavorative, comunitarie. E' già in corso il cosiddetto "GREST", iniziativa formativa ed occasione di divertimento che richiama un discreto (almeno per noi...) numero di bambini e ragazzi, ed è ormai prossimo l'inizio del catechismo.		This year we got, to our luckiness, a better summer than in 2003. It was less hot than last year and, after our high summer vacation season, all people came back from their holiday resorts, and slowsly started their usual social, work and community activities. During these days our children are taking part to our “Grest” a sort of educational meeting where they can play, learn, pray; normally the attandance is very good considering that Mandriolo is a very small parish; soon our childred will start their catechism lessons.
Il nostro parroco Don Giancarlo, dopo essere stato in pellegrinaggio a Medjugorie - Jugoslavia - dove da anni la Madonna appare ad alcuni veggenti, sembra avere acquisito ottimismo e nuove risorse: al suo rientro abbiamo notato in lui una vena di entusiasmo e di iniziativa ed ora la recita del Rosario è quotidiana mentre i momenti di adorazione eucaristica hanno assunto un "target" più mistico e profondo. Insomma questo pellegrinaggio ce lo ha restituito come ringiovanito nello spirito, così come sembra essere successo ultimamente anche ad altre persone le quali, recatesi in quel luogo, hanno vissuto la medesima esperienza di fede. Tutto ciò è motivo di speranza e fiducia sebbene il numero di coloro che operano attivamente in parrocchia si stia assottigliando vistosamente di anno in anno; e questo a dispetto della popolazione globale che, grazie ai nuovi insediamenti abitativi nel territorio parrocchiale, è in crescita (non è mai stato più vero che la messe è molta ma gli operai sono pochi!).		Our priest, Don Giancarlo, after visiting Medjugorje (Yugoslavia) where there Holy Virgin Mary has been appeared since many years to some young seers, seems having acquired optimism and new resources; after his return we have remarked a clear initiative and enthusiasm disposition and now the rosary is daily prayed in our church while the Eucharistic adoration is done more frequently and in a more mystic and deep way. In other words: this pilgrimage has returned him to us as fortified and younger in the spirit; this is not the first case; many other people having lived this faith experience in that place came back completely transformed. All what is a reason of hope and trust, despite the number of active people working in the parish is considerably and continuously decreasing; and this in spite of continue growing global population due to the new living agglomerates in our parish territory (Jesus’ saying: “harvest is very much but workers are very few” was never so actual and true like nowadays).
Vedremo se saremo in grado di concepire, ma soprattutto di portare avanti con convinzione e costanza, strategie nuove che permettano di aprire le porte della comunità a coloro che finora sono rimasti fuori ed ai nuovi venuti; iniziative e atteggiamenti che li inducano a ritenersi sempre invitati e accolti con calore. Forse è vero, come Lei ci può insegnare con il suo esempio, che per ottenere questo non è sufficiente confidare sulle nostre misere forze ma che, messe a disposizione degli altri le proprie umane risorse, occorre invocare con fiducia il contributo di... Qualcuno che sta più in alto!		Let’s see if we’ll be able to conceive, but above all to carry on with conviction and constancy, new strategies which can enable us to open the door of our community to all those who kept out or to the newcomers; new activities or behaviour which can lead these people to consider themselves always invited and accepted with warmth. Maybe it’s true, and you can teach us with your example, that for obtaining this we can not count only on our poor forces. Even placed at disposal of people, without the contribution of Somebody from Above we can not do anything.
