Lettera dell’11 ottobre 2008 inviata da Mandriolo a padre Katam Balthazar, parroco di Razole.

Caro padre Katam		Dear Fr. Katam
La ringrazio per le notizie e le fotografie che ci ha inviato finora e le chiedo scusa per il ritardo con cui rispondo.		Thank you for your news and pictures you have sent us so far and apologies for the dealy with which I am answering you.
Ci ha dato un certo sollievo apprendere che non vi hanno toccato direttamente i disordini religiosi verificatisi dalle vostre parti, con persecuzione ed uccisione di cristiani: temevamo che potessero colpire anche voi.		We were very relieved to learn that the recent religious riots occurred in your country with persecutions and slaughters of christian peoples have not touched you: we were really scared they could have affected you too.

Inoltre ci riempie il cuore di gioia leggere che presso la vostra missione le cose vanno più che bene. Siamo contenti che lei stia portando avanti la comunità di Razole con lo stesso entusiasmo e fervore del suo predecessore, padre Joseph. Possa Dio continuare a benedire il lavoro di tutti coloro che, come lei, lo servono fedelmente, senza risparmiarsi.		Besides, we rejoice in reading that at your mission things are getting on better and better. We are happy you carry on with the Razole community with the same enthusiasm and fervour as your predecessor, the late father Joseph. May God bless your work and all those that, like you, serve him faithfully with all their strength.
Personalmente – ma sono certo di potere parlare a nome di tutta la comunità di Mandriolo – ho trovato commovente tutto il bene che avete fatto nel corso delle celebrazioni e delle attività svolte in occasione del primo anniversario della morte di padre Joseph. E questo con riguardo non solo al campo medico (riuscito in modo sorprendente) ma anche a tutti gli altri gesti di carità compiuti verso gli ammalati, i carcerati e le altre persone bisognose nel corpo e nello spirito. Sappiate che le vostre buone azioni edificano anche noi, in questa lontana parte del mondo: la profonda sensibilità, lo zelo ardente verso i poveri, la fede nella preghiera sono eredità lasciateci dal grande padre Joseph e, sulle sue orme, voi ci state dando un esempio. Il Signore ve ne renda merito.		Personally, but I am sure I can speak on behalf of the whole Mandriolo community, I found very moving reading about all the good things you did during your celebrations and the activities performed on the occasion of the first anniversary of father Joseph’s death. I refer not only to the mediacal field, where you obtained astonishing success, but also to the other charity initiatives toward the ill people, prisoners and the many other people in need both in their body and soul. I’d like you to know that your good deeds also have a positive influence on ours in this far away corner of the world: your deep sensitivity, burning zeal toward the poor, your faith in the prayers are a legacy left us by the late father Joseph and you are giving us a good example following in his footsteps. May God reward you for these.
Proprio domenica 7 settembre 2008, la Santa Messa principale delle ore 10.30 a Mandriolo è stata celebrata in suffragio di padre Joseph. Lo ha ricordato il nostro don Giancarlo con queste testuali parole, pronunciate tra lacrime di commozione: “Egli è stato un uomo eccezionale quando era quaggiù. Ha fatto grandi cose ... per i bambini, i poveri, gli ammalati. Noi avremmo desiderato che lo lasciasse ancora qui tra noi, ma Gesù avrà capito che l’apice dell’amore l’aveva già raggiunto e l’ha preso con sé in cielo.” Siamo quindi certi che egli ora da lassù ci assiste ed intercede per le nostre due comunità.		By the way of this, just Sunday 7th September, our parish 10,30 am main Mass was celebrated in Mandriolo in suffrage of father Joseph. Don Giancarlo remembered him with these words he spoke amidst tears of emotion: “He was an amazing man while still among us. He accomplished great things ... for the children, the poor, the sick ones. We would have wished God allowed him some more time among us, but Jesus will have understood that he had reached the peak of love, so he took him to Himself in Heaven.” Now, we feel sure that from high above he assits, protects and intercedes on behalf of our two communities.
Veniamo ora a questioni più materiali.		Let us now come to more material issues.
Mi spiace che, a causa di problemi riguardanti la posta elettronica, siate stati informati con ritardo delle offerte da noi spedite il 28 aprile 2008 (10.300 euro). Davvero non capisco perché si siano smarrite varie email che io le ho inviato nei mesi scorsi. Dopo averle spedite io non ho ricevuto alcun messaggio di errore né alcuna segnalazione che mi facesse pensare a problemi di consegna al destinatario. Questo problema resta un mistero ed ora ho il timore che anche questa lettera non vi arrivi regolarmente. Per sicurezza la trasmetto pure col servizio postale. Per favore, mi faccia sapere se, quando e come è arrivata: vorrei evitare di dovere ricorrere alla posta tradizionale per ogni comunicazione.		We are sorry to hear that, due to email problems, you were informed much later on about the offers for 10,300 euros we sent you on April 28th last. I don’t really understand how a number of emails sent in the previous months can have gone astray! After forwarding them, I didn’t receive any message of errors nor any advice potentially signalling any misdelivery to the adressee. This problem is still a mistery to me and I wouldn’t want also this present message to reach you irregularly. For more security I will also forward this one by surface mail. Please, let me know if, when and how it reaches you: I’d rather avoid having to resort to surface mail for any future communication.
Questa estate, con varie iniziative, abbiamo cercato di raccogliere altri fondi per la chiesa che desiderate costruire. Al suddetto importo che già vi abbiamo inviato (10.300 euro, di cui 10.180 euro per la chiesa) ne aggiungeremo un altro di entità simile. In questo modo la spesa totale di 43.750 euro sarà coperta quasi per metà. Provvederò ad informarla appena avremo spedito questa ulteriore somma. Lei ci aggiorni sempre in merito alla durata ed al progresso dei lavori che ora potete iniziare, col nostro contributo.		Last summer, through various initiatives we tried to collect more funds for the church we intend to build. We will add to the above mentioned sum already sent, (10.300 euros, 10.180 of which in euro for the church) a second sum of a similar amount. In this way, the total sum of 43.750 euros will be covered almost by half. I will promptly let you know when such new second amount has been forwarded to you. Kindly let us be updated about the duration and progress of the building works that you can now start, with our support.
Nel frattempo faremo il possibile per assicurare anche la raccolta delle offerte riguardanti i bimbi adottati. Sarebbe una cosa molto buona se i bimbi scrivessero ai loro benefattori: riscalderebbe i reciproci rapporti. Se io ricevessi le lettere entro breve termine potrei approfittarne per consegnarle ai genitori adottivi chiedendo, allo stesso tempo, la disponibilità a mantenere vivo il rapporto.		Meanwhile, we will do our best to ensure the collection of the offers for the adopted children. It would be a very nice thing if the children wrote to their benefactors: it would help strengthen their relationship. If I could receive their letters shortly I could take advantege of this to deliver them to their adoptive parents while asking them, in the meantime, about their willingness to keep the relationship alive.
